Last week you read The Autobiography of an Ex-Colored Man and Quicksand, in an essay of approximately two pages, discuss the differences in American attitudes towards miscegenation and interracial sex. Points will be awarded based on organization, research, content, and grammar. You will need an introduction and a conclusion, and at least two body paragraphs. The introductory paragraph must contain a one-sentence thesis statement. Each body paragraph should begin with a topic sentence that identifies the paragraph’s main point. Use specifics from the reading, including quotations, to develop and support the idea articulated in the topic sentence. Your bibliography will contain just one citation – but it MUST be properly formatted. The concluding paragraph should reiterate and cement the essay’s central idea. This project carries 15 points. Points will be awarded based on organization, research, content, and grammar. A major reason for this essay so early in the course is for me to evaluate your writing and use of MLA conventions – do not be disappointed if I refer you to the Effective Writing Center for future assignments – my goal is for you to be an effective writer!
