This assignment will involve calculations so you will need a calculator. Most answers can be typed into the Microsoft Word document provided, but you will have to print a copy of this file as you will be graphing data.
Some helpful hints for this assignment:
Be sure to complete the practice problems in the flood intensity and frequency topic Make sure you can get the correct answers for both recurrence interval and probability calculations. A similar example is worked through at the start of the video linked above before the assignment is described.
Work through the assignment by reading the background information on the first couple pages then following the instructions listed in the questions that follow.
You can round your recurrence intervals to the nearest tenth (for example 3.2 years).
On the graph, please note that the horizontal scale (recurrence interval) does not increase evenly. From to 0 the vertical lines increase by one each (2, 3, 4, etc.). From 0-00 they increase by 0 each (20, 30, etc.). Beyond 00 they increase by 00 each (200, 300, etc.).
Best fit lines are straight lines that show the average trend of the data. Your best fit line needs to extend all the way from the left-hand side of the graph to the right-hand side of the graph as a straight line.
For question 5, you will be looking at your predicted discharge for the recurrence interval designated using your best fit line for Data Set B.
For questions a and b, all the information you need for these probability calculations are in the question. You do NOT need any other data from this assignment.
