Therefore, it is reasonable to argue that morality evolved to promote cooperation. While it is true that cooperation is essential for survival, the world has changed a lot since our moral intuitions first developed.As a result of the world growing more cosmopolitan and diversifying, our moral intuitions may not be as beneficial in contemporary society if they are calibrated for evolutionary circumstances when cooperation is vital for survival.
