Research Paper: Due Apr 25 (100 pts)
This assignment requires students to demonstrate an integration of bio/psycho/social/cultural dimensions, applicable models/theories/perspectives, developmental considerations, and systems dimensions.  Students must identify a topic of choice and prepare a 10 pages paper that address the following:
Define and describe the selected topic that include statistics.  Examples of topics include:
PTSD and Veterans
Teenage Pregnancy
Children in Foster Care
Divorce and Elementary-Age Children
Bullying and Adolescence
Alcoholism/Substance Abuse among College Students
Parental Incarceration and Elementary-Age Children
Childhood Sexual Abuse
Homelessness
Poverty
Include graphs or charts to show the impact of the selected topic – such as statistical data to show the prevalence of the issue on a target population or comparative statistics of the differences among the issue (i.e. different forms of bullying – verbal, physical, cyber, etc).  Visual images cannot exceed one third of page, if larger include as an Appendix
Explain the potential effects of the identified topic on an individual – discuss biological, psychological, social, and cultural developmental dimensions.  Paper should identify a very specific target population i.e. women, children, adolescents, veterans, refugees, elderly, ethnic or religious groups.
Compare and contrast two theories, models, or perspectives that can be applied to the selected topic. Identify at least three ways the theory, model, or perspective are different and three ways they are similar.
Select one of the theories, models, or perspectives discussed and explain how it can be applied to address the life event.  This section should include a proposed intervention that is designed from the selected theory, model, or perspective and the anticipated outcomes.
Conclusion should give a concise overview of the critical points noted in your paper and should not introduce new information, concepts, or discussion points not already noted in the text of the paper.
Paper must be no less than 10 pages of content, which does not include cover page or reference page.  A minimum of 15 references from peer-reviewed journal articles are required.  You may include the course text, other books, or professional and reputable websites, but those will notcount toward the mandated 15 references from peer-reviewed journals.
Paper must follow Writing Guidelines noted in the Classroom Policies section of the syllabus
Completion of this paper with a “C” or better grade (at least 30 out of 40 points) is required for candidacy as well as to pass this course.
