Students will conduct an interview with someone over the age of 55 and submit a 3 – 5 page summary of the interview. This assignment will help you understand the perspective of someone from an aging generation who has many similarities to you while also having significant differences.
The assignment asks you to synthesize the content so it becomes a narrative. Do not turn in a series of questions and answers. Write a narrative essay about an interview with an older person at least 55 years of age or older, answering the following questions:
What is your occupation? What do you do when you weren’t working? What are/were your hobbies?
What did you like to do on vacations? Tell me about a trip you took that was special.
Name three things you accomplished in your life that made you proud.
Besides your wedding day or the days your children were born, what was the best day of your life and why?
Where did you live when you were ten years old? Who did you live with? What was the house like? Where did you find your warmth?
Of all the places you have lived which was you favorite? Why?
Tell me about something that was a special first for you (like your first kiss, your first baby, your first car).
What is the saddest thing that has ever happened to you? How did you deal with it? Who helped you then? Tell me about a time when you helped someone else having a bad time.
Have you ever experienced discrimination? how did you deal with that?
Who was the best friend you ever had? What made that person special?  What kind of things did you do together?
You should then synthesize this content so it becomes a narrative rather than a response to your question. Give a picture of your interviewee’s meaningful experiences in life in 3-5 pages.
