Students will write a response paper
before the reading is discussed in class (between 400 words and 600 words).
There are a total of 5 response papers due. It is required to write at least
one paper per month for September, October, and December. Send your response
paper no later than Monday at 8am before class. Post your paper on blackboard
and have a copy available for class. If the student misses the deadline for the
response paper (for emergency reasons only), then she/he will receive a lower
grade.
Write a clear and concise essay of 400 words (not including
title, references, and your name. You should not write more than 600 words. The
essay should be double-spaced using the instructions at the bottom of this
sheet.  You must write your essay on a
computer.  The pages must have one-inch
margins.  Use Times New Roman 12 for your
font. Do not use “draft” quality for your print-out.  The print-out must be “high”
quality– dark and clear.  You must
proofread your work!  Essays that are
turned in late, handwritten, single-spaced, in very
small type fonts (more than 12 characters
per inch), longer than four pages, or that do not otherwise meet the standards
detailed in these instructions will not be accepted.  Your full name and essay title should appear
at the top of the page.  Do not write the
instructor’s name or the course name or number.
Do not copy the instructions onto the sheet that you submit.
Do not use sources that we have not discussed in class (NO
INTERNET SOURCES ALLOWED).  Do not use
quotes from any readings.  Use a
parenthetical citation (name of author year: page number—e.g. Roseberry
1996:62) for any information that you borrow from class readings.
