The purpose of this assignment is to alert students to the many ways in which films portray relationships and families. It is to raise students awareness of the themes, words, and settings of films, and how these can often educate us about other cultures, relationship problems, and other issues related to marriage and families. This assignment, therefore, is to raise your awareness of the several ways in which family life and expected behaviors may be perpetuated, encouraged, and discussed in movies. This is to alert you to the magnitude of this phenomenon and depending on how and what we watch, movies can encourage certain behaviors and views about marriage and families. The assignment also allows you to use the theories discussed in Chapter 2 to help you make sense of what you are viewing.
