The depiction of the perfection standards in Classical Greek sculptures reflected the value and importance of the accomplishments of human beings, hoping to attain as close to the status of the Gods as possible. On the other hand, the inclusion of more realistic human features (the inclusion of fine lines and signs of aging on the face primarily) was largely seen in Republican sculptures. This approach was more realistic versus the idealistic Classical Greek design and sought out a greater sense of realism to accurately portray the subject. Military success and a devotion to the public through service was highly important in society, and these ideals were depicted through realistic representation in works of art. In the republic, citizens who held official roles would commision portrait busts that clearly included their wrinkles and imperfections, while full length statues were comprised of a generic body shape with a veristic portrait face attached. Analyzing both Classical Greek and Republican sculptural art allows the observer to note the differences in not only artistic technique, but societal values held by each civilization.)
